Gillian makes music at open day
October 4, 2019
Gillian Allen won’t be at her Euroa unit to welcome visitors when it opens for tours as part of Currie Park’s 150th anniversary celebrations on Saturday November 23. But you can see and hear her at the celebrations. She will be the one playing the glockenspiel with the Euroa Citizen’s Band.
“My unit has been opened to the public to look at before and people are very interested to find out about life here at the village. Someone will be here to answer all the questions, but I will be making music,” she said.
But if you do catch up with Gillian and ask her about life at Currie Park, she will have lots to tell you. She reckons her unit, which underwent a major renovation a couple of years ago, is the best unit in the village. She sits on her porch and looks across the road and up into the nearby hills. Gillian’s also happy to talk up life in Euroa, a community she has put her time and energy into.
She moved to Currie Park 11 years ago, leaving behind a large choir in Albury where she sang regularly.
“Making music is important in my life so when I arrived in Euroa I joined the Citizen’s Band. Someone suggested I learn the saxophone, but I opted for the glockenspiel and learnt that,” Gillian said.
If you would like to visit Gillian’s unit and find out about life at Currie Park, bookings are free and essential here. One of the assisted living apartments will also be open to visitors.
The Currie Park open day celebrations on November 23, which run from 12 noon until 3.30pm, have something for everyone, music lovers and gardeners alike. Currie Park residents have developed a thriving edible garden and other garden spaces are decorated with local artwork.
Local talent will be on show with the Euroa Citizen’s Band, performer Greg Dudley and the Eureka Ukulele Band. The Euroa Little Theatre Group will also be performing some pop up acts throughout the afternoon.
As well as the entertainment there will be a barbecue and afternoon tea available.
The apartments are beautiful, with lovely, open and bright rooms, and a balcony for growing plants in pots. I am starting to make my apartment into a home.
