Project to create safe outdoor environments for older Australians wins industry award
July 21, 2021
OCAV’s research partner, the National Ageing Research Institute, has has been recognised for its work to create age-friendly outdoor spaces for older people to engage in physical and social activities.
NARI won the 2021 Research Award in the annual Parks and Leisure Australia Awards for Excellence for its Enjoy program designed to improve mood and self-esteem in older people, and can also reduce feelings of loneliness and social isolation.
The ENJOY project was undertaken by NARI in partnership with Wyndham and Whittlesea City Councils and the Old Colonists’ Association of Victoria, and supported by Gandel Philanthropy.
The seniors’ exercise park is based at Liscombe House within the Leith Park retirement village.
Leith Park is a wonderful place for single older women because of the community and the age-friendly accommodation. I don’t think I have ever felt as safe as I have here.
